EMV Chip Technology Helps Protect Your Card
 
When used at a chip card reader, the new chip in your card makes it more difficult for criminals to steal transaction information that’s used to create a counterfeit card.
 
A chip-enabled card has a small microchip built into it that contains the same information that’s stored in the magnetic stripe on the back of the card. A chip adds another layer of security to cards by requiring the chip to produce a single-use code to validate the chip transaction — further protecting your card from unauthorized use.
 
How to use your EMV Card

At a Chip Card Reader
Your merchant will direct you to insert your chip card into the terminal and follow the instructions until the transaction is complete. Not all chip card readers will look the same, so remember to follow the prompts on screen. If you come across a merchant who has not made the transition yet, you can still swipe your card as you do today.
